Industrial Relations Update
UBCP and DGC BC
Per the successful conclusion of bargaining and the long, collaborative drafting period we are pleased to let our members know the 2015– 2018 UBCP Master Agreement and the 2015–2018 DGC BC Collective Agreement have been finalized. Both agreements will be going to print before the end of July 2015. Links to the long form agreements will be available on our CMPA website in August.
The CMPA-BC will be back in negotiations with the BC Council of Film Unions in Los Angeles on August 6th, 2015.
The ACFC contract expires on March 31, 2016. We expect to be in negotiations for a renewed agreement by the late fall of 2015. A call for proposals and volunteers to sit on the bargaining committee will go out in early September. Please make sure to note any contractual issues that have come up on productions over the past three years and send us an e-mail outlining the details at any time.
Gigi and Jennifer attended a seminar hosted by the UBCP in relation to fatigue and film workers in July. The industry specific information presented at the seminar was based on data gathered from a survey commissioned by UBCP and completed by over 2,000 film industry employees in B.C. The seminar provided useful insight into how fatigue affects the quality of life and the quality of work for those working long hours in the industry. Recommendations were made on how to lessen the effects of fatigue by better managing on-set working conditions (e.g. best nutrition choices for shift workers, rest during the day) and of course trying to shorten shooting hours. The CMPA BC have formed a joint committee with reps from the UBCP and the DGC BC to analyze the data further in order to co-develop a realistic set of recommendations for our respective members and better inform the industry as a whole with regard to best practices re: fatigue management.
